Gold Medallist – Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games
“In the early stages of my skiing journey, one of the key turning points was being invited to join the ESSKIA squad after competing at the Regional and English Finals. It was both a proud moment and a major confidence boost. Being part of ESSKIA opened the door to opportunities I had never imagined at that age, including the chance to attend alpine training camps and, most memorably, to represent England at the ISF (World Schools Championships). To wear the national colours on the international stage at such a young age was an unforgettable honour that inspired me to push my limits and dream bigger.
What stands out most from those early days isn't just the racing or training, it’s the friendships, the sense of belonging, and the sheer enjoyment of being part of something special. ESSKIA creates an environment where young skiers can thrive, not only by developing their technical ability and racing experience, but also by growing in confidence, resilience, and independence.
I look back on those camps and competitions with immense gratitude. The experiences I had through ESSKIA played a significant role in shaping the athlete and person I became. For any young skier with ambition and passion, I would wholeheartedly encourage you to aim for ESSKIA selection. It’s more than just a squad; it’s a stepping stone to lifelong memories, personal growth, and potentially even the world stage.”
Ski Cross Olympian
"I started skiing at the age of 3 on family holidays and recruited to make up the numbers on my school ski race team at the age of 12. Having had no previous race experience, ESSKIA was my first introduction to racing and I loved it. That year I was selected for the ESSKIA squad and went on my first ski training camp across to Norway with the team, what an amazing experience and something I remember to this day! Following a successful Alpine career I made the switch to Ski Cross in 2005 and went on to represent GB on the World Cup circuit, competing in 3 World Championships and achieving a life long dream of representing Team GB at the 2018 Olympic Games and making British history. I’m truly thankful for all the opportunities this sport has given me, the places I’ve travelled, friends I’ve made and lessons I’ve learnt ... it’s really is something special!”
