UK TRAINING DAYS ARE NOW OPEN FOR BOOKINGS
Schools’ ski racing on snow is very expensive but by holding this race indoors in England, ESSKIA aims to make this event accessible to as many schools as possible. The race takes place once a year on a Monday in the Summer Term. Teams race in 4 age groups and awards are given to the fastest teams in each age group. Skiers in School Years 3 – 13 are welcome to take part. ESSKIA races are for teams of 3 or 4 skiers and there are separate categories for boys’ and girls’ teams. On race day skiers arrive at the slope, collect their bib with their start number on it and put on their ski gear. You can hire skis and boots at the slope or bring your own. There is time for a few runs to warm up and then the slalom course is set. Skiers then inspect the course by stop-start skiing down it before the race begins. All the teams ski a first run in number order and the fastest 3 times count for the team score. This is followed by a second run for everyone but in reverse bib number order, and again the fastest 3 times count for each team. At the end of the race the times are calculated and there is a prize-giving with medals for the fastest 3 boys’ and girls’ teams in each age group, as well as the fastest 3 individual boys and girls.
