Schools that qualify from the Regional Rounds are invited to attend the English Schools’ Dry Slope Finals, which take place annually around the second weekend of October.
On the Friday afternoon before racing begins, each school can book a practice slot directly with the host slope. This gives skiers time to get used to the surface, terrain and general environment before competition day.
Day 1 – Age Group and Mixed Team Finals
The first day of racing features four age-group finals and one mixed team final.
Morning Event – Primary and Years 7–8
Teams in the Primary School category and Years 7 and 8 race in the morning. After a warm-up period and course inspection, each skier completes two runs. Team scores are calculated using the fastest three times from each run. Racing is followed by a short break for lunch and the first prize-giving ceremony.
Afternoon Event – Years 9–10, Year 11+, and Mixed Teams
The remaining categories follow the same two-run format in the afternoon. A second prize-giving ceremony closes the day. Trophies are awarded to the top three girls’ teams and top three boys’ teams in each age category, as well as the top three mixed teams in Category 5.

Day 2 – Open Team Championships
The second day of the Finals weekend hosts the Open Team Championships, open to senior school teams from Years 7–13. Schools may enter girls’, boys’ or mixed teams made up of their strongest skiers.
After warm-up runs, the girls complete their first run, followed by the boys in bib order. The second run takes place as soon as possible afterwards, using the same running order. Results are calculated in the same way as for the Regional Qualifiers.
Trophies are awarded to the top three boys’, girls’ and mixed teams, as well as the top three individual boys and girls. The fastest teams are invited to represent England at the British Finals in November.
Additional Mixed Team Category
The Open Championships also include a separate Mixed Team event for pupils in Years 7–13. This race is not connected to the Regional Qualifiers or National Finals, and teams do not have to be the same. The best two mixed teams will be invited to compete in the Mixed Team category at the British Championships.
